Sandy and Edward will be getting married in Hong-Kong this summer! They flew to Paris for a few days late september. Edward had contacted me via a friend, who i photographed a few years ago with his girlfriend. It is always very sweet of past clients to pass on my contact info in Paris, even nicer when it was over 4 years that I spend an afternoon with them touring the streets of Paris. In a way, it is quite a unique experience to contract a professional photographer for a few hours in Paris to document one’s love for each other with this beautiful city in the background. It is always a lot of fun to take a couple around town for some engagement or a pre-wedding photo session.
Sometimes I am even asked to capture a proposal in the city. It is always quite moving to experience first hand, this very special moment when a man propose to his future wife. My dear clients may be bankers, lawyers, doctors, they are always quite tense, insecure when the moment comes to open a little box with an engagement ring and ask: “Do you want to marry me?”
Always quite moving actually … a few tears later, some laughters! And off we start our photo session. It is wonderful to share this very special moment with a couple. It certainly creates a special bound and often a sudden friendship. Sometime you even get to travel the world a few months later to photograph your new friends wedding.
I have so many great memories of couples i met in Paris over a private photo tour + you get to meet interesting couples with such different stories, flying from all over the world to the city of love which, most of the time they had never been before! I can just imagine the excitement.
Certainly spring and summer are quite popular times to have a photo tour in Paris. The days are getting longer, as are the opening times of museums, terraces of cafés are getting filled with tourists and Parisians alike. You may think that those months are the perfect time of the year to have a photo session in the most romantic place in the world. There is not a best time or best places in Paris to propose actually or to have your engagement photo session. Paris is simply beautiful all year long, regardless of the season.
It is true, the Eiffel tower is such an iconic location, you may want to have this grand monument in the background for your proposal. (We will easily organise that for you) … And if it rains a bit, we can shelter to one of the many cafés around for a hot chocolate for a while. There is no real rush after all. (I am often asked), what do we do if it rains; no worries, i’ll have an umbrella which we can use as a prop, and in any case we will make this moment memorable and fun.
A lot of my clients would tend to propose at the Eiffel tower early morning, then have a photo session for a few hours. It is true that a sunrise session is quite perfect and for the right reason since it offers some of the most flattering light and is the only opportunity to capture popular iconic Parisian backdrops largely empty of tourists (e.g. Eiffel Tower, Louvre, etc.). If you are early birds, perfect! Me too …
We also love the night time when Paris is most romantic … and of course the magical transition to darkness, or so-called twilight; typically the first 20-25 minutes after official sunset. It is always good to check on a sunrise and sunset time prior to a photo shoot by the way.
Please note that the sunrise and sunset sessions require a minimum booking commitment of 2 hours. While we also propose shorter photo session, “mid-morning specials” around the Eiffel Tower or the Louvres from 30mn to one hour, we would suggest you consider a longer photo session, which simply allows for greater creativity, more fun and of course a larger selection of gorgeous photographs. It does take a little while to get used to having your portrait taken. Past the first 1/2, you will feel like a rockstar once i have taught you a few of my secrets!
The ultimate experience would be to book two hours in the morning and the same for the evening this way we can play with some beautiful light. Sunrise, daytime, evening or a combination of both, everything is of course possible in Paris. We could combine a morning photo session followed by an afternoon shoot at Versailles which is only 45mn away from the city after all.
All to say that the possibilities are endless. Foremost, is it a lot of fun to organise an engagement photo session in town while you are visiting. If you want to surprise your love one, it is the perfect gift! Combine a photo session with a picnic at the champ de mars with “Love Picnic Paris“, and you will be in heaven sipping a glass of champagne while you enjoy the eiffel tower in the distance.
Here are a few more couple photo shoot that we have done recently with some international couples.
